Senior Python Developer - Risk & PnL Team

Location: London (Minimum 50% onsite)

Contract Length: Initial 6-month contract (funded for several years with strong extension prospects)

Day Rate: Competitive (inside IR35)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Python Developer to join a high-performing Risk & PnL Team supporting a critical trading platform within a leading financial services environment.

The team is responsible for the development and enhancement of TRACC, a business-critical application used by the Derivatives Execution & Clearing (DEC) business.

The Role

Working within a collaborative team of 3 Developers, 1 Business Analyst, 1 Tester and the Team Lead, you will be involved in all aspects of the platform's development and ongoing enhancement.

The role covers:

  • Core Python application development
  • Web API design, development and maintenance
  • Database development and optimisation
  • Infrastructure and Server Side processes
  • Front End enhancements using JavaScript/Angular
  • Test automation and CI/CD improvements
  • Working directly with business users and Middle Office stakeholders to understand and deliver requirements

You will play a key role in driving Agile best practices, promoting high-quality engineering standards and helping shape the future direction of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain Python-based applications and services
  • Build and enhance APIs supporting critical business functionality
  • Deliver enhancements and features through the Jira backlog
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to gather, analyse and refine requirements
  • Participate in sprint planning, technical discussions and solution design sessions
  • Demonstrate completed work and new functionality to stakeholders
  • Champion automated testing and continuous integration practices
  • Identify opportunities for automation, simplification and platform improvements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Expert-level Python development experience
  • Strong experience building and maintaining Web APIs
  • Solid understanding of SQL and database design
  • JavaScript, HTML and web application development experience
  • Proven experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Strong focus on automated testing and deployment practices
  • Experience working with CI/CD tools, particularly Jenkins
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
