3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Farnborough (Hybrid: 5 days remote/5 days onsite, 10-day cycle)

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000

Holiday: 25 days annual leave (increasing with service)

We are seeking an experienced 3rd Line Engineer to join a high-performing technical delivery team, responsible for supporting and improving complex customer environments. This role sits at an escalation level and is focused on project-led infrastructure work, rather than purely BAU support. You will be responsible for delivering technical upgrades, leading troubleshooting across customer estates, and driving improvements across both on-prem and cloud-based environments.

You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of delivery, supporting junior engineers, and building strong relationships with customers through clear communication and technical expertise. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys ownership, project work, and working across a broad and modern technology stack, particularly within environments transitioning to cloud-first.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience operating at a 3rd Line/Senior Engineer level (ideally 5+ years)
  • Strong background working within an MSP environment
  • Demonstrable experience delivering infrastructure projects and technical upgrades
  • Strong cloud experience is essential, particularly within hybrid environments moving towards cloud-first
  • Proven experience managing cloud builds and deployment
  • Strong knowledge of M365, including Exchange Online, Teams and SharePoint
  • Intune device management, compliance policies and configuration profiles
  • Solid SCCM experience (key requirement) for device and environment management
  • Solid understanding of Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Experience supporting hybrid infrastructures (on-prem and cloud)
  • Troubleshooting capability across networking, Servers and virtual environments
  • Experience with VMware (ESXi, vCentre) and virtual infrastructure management
  • Experience supporting Apple iOS devices is highly beneficial
  • Strong communication skills, ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desirable Experience:

  • Citrix experience is a nice-to-have (not a core requirement)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Defender, Sentinel and security best practices
  • Experience with Azure Update Management, WSUS or patching automation tools
  • Exposure to Conditional Access and security policy design
  • Experience supporting DNS, PKI or Exchange environments
  • PowerShell Scripting and automation experience
  • Relevant certifications across Microsoft, VMware or networking technologies

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues and incidents
  • Deliver infrastructure upgrade and patching projects across customer environments
  • Lead on VMware and Microsoft platform improvements (with less emphasis on Citrix)
  • Carry out advanced troubleshooting across cloud, hybrid and virtual environments
  • Support and drive the transition from hybrid to cloud-first environments
  • Implement and maintain security and compliance improvements across customer estates
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, project plans and post-implementation reviews
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third-party vendors to ensure successful delivery
  • Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
