IT Network Engineer (Fortinet Specialist) - Contract

Our client is delivering a network refresh across multiple healthcare sites and requires an experienced Network Engineer with strong Fortinet FortiGate Firewall expertise. The role involves hands-on deployment, configuration, and optimisation of Firewall infrastructure, supporting secure network segmentation and integration with Cisco switching environments.

You will lead Firewall implementation-from installation and rulebase configuration to VPN setup, HA pairing, and firmware management-ensuring secure connectivity and minimal service disruption. Additional responsibilities include assisting with switch replacements, structured cabling, and an ISP migration at one site.

Strong documentation and communication skills are essential to provide clear handover materials and collaborate effectively with internal IT and security teams.

Key Skills & Experience

• Expert knowledge of Fortinet FortiGate configuration, policy creation, NAT, VPNs, and HA.
• Strong understanding of VLANs, routing, and network segmentation principles.
• Experience with Cisco Catalyst Switches (VLANs, trunking, PoE).
• Working knowledge of Cisco ISE and 802.1X integration.
• Familiar with structured cabling standards (CAT6/CAT6A).
• Proven track record in Firewall migrations, WAN cutovers, and live-site refresh projects.
• Minimum 5+ years' enterprise network engineering experience, ideally in regulated or multi-site environments.
• Able to work across Leeds, Doncaster, and Whitley sites as needed.
