Interim Professional Services Engineer - Sheffield - 2-month initial contract

Our client is looking for an Interim Professional Services Engineer responsible for designing, scoping, implementing, and supporting complex IT solutions for both clients and internal business systems. The role combines technical consultancy, infrastructure design, project delivery and major incident management.

Acting as a trusted advisor to clients and colleagues, the Professional Services Engineer will work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements, design appropriate technical solutions, and deliver projects to a high standard. The role will also act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues and provide mentoring and knowledge sharing to engineers across the business.

This position requires a proactive, customer-focused individual with strong technical expertise across Microsoft technologies, networking, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, and infrastructure

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver complex IT infrastructure, cloud, and Microsoft technology projects.
  • Lead deployments and migrations across Microsoft 365, Azure, networking, security, server, and storage environments.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues and major incidents.
  • Provide technical consultancy, solution design, and pre-sales support.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical standards and best practices.
  • Produce technical documentation and ensure compliance with security and operational standards.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, and SharePoint.
  • Solid infrastructure knowledge including Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and virtualisation (VMware/Hyper-V).
  • Networking expertise covering Firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, switching, and network security.
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender, endpoint security, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Proven background delivering infrastructure and cloud projects within an MSP or Professional Services environment.
  • Strong client-facing, troubleshooting, and project delivery experience.
  • Full UK driving licence required.

Desirable:

  • Microsoft, Azure, or Cyber Security certifications.
  • Project management or project delivery experience.
