Overview
- We're supporting a high-profile UK Government digital programme seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join an established engineering team delivering secure, cloud-native services.
- This role is primarily remote, with occasional onsite collaboration. Office attendance will vary depending on your location-those based near London can expect around 1-2 days per week, while candidates based elsewhere in the UK will typically attend less frequently.
- You'll play a key role in improving delivery capability, enhancing platform reliability, and supporting engineering teams through modern DevOps practices and automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Drive best practice across DevOps, release management and software delivery.
- Manage and improve Git-based source control and development workflows.
- Build, operate and support production cloud environments, primarily within AWS.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code solutions.
- Automate operational tasks and developer workflows using Python and other Scripting languages where appropriate.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues using a structured, evidence-based approach.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to improve platform performance, security and reliability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and promote DevOps best practices across delivery teams.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Active SC Clearance.
- Strong commercial experience designing, building and operating CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working with Git-based development and source control practices.
- Proven experience operating production workloads within a major public cloud platform, ideally AWS.
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation or similar).
- Commercial Python Scripting experience for automation and operational tooling.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a methodical, evidence-led approach.
- Strong communication skills and experience working within Agile delivery teams
Desirable:
- Experience working within Central Government or other highly secure environments.
- Knowledge of cloud security, monitoring and observability tooling.
- Experience improving developer experience through automation and platform engineering practices.
