Overview:
- We're recruiting for an experienced Lead Software Developer to join a high-profile Government digital programme delivering large-scale citizen-facing services.
- This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll help shape engineering strategy, mentor development teams and drive best practice across the software development life cycle. Working alongside architects, principal engineers and multidisciplinary Agile teams, you'll be instrumental in delivering secure, scalable and resilient digital services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership across multiple software engineering teams.
- Champion modern software engineering best practices, standards and delivery processes.
- Remain hands-on where required while setting technical direction for delivery teams.
- Design and lead the development of reusable libraries, shared services and scalable software components.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and technical stakeholders to define the long-term engineering vision.
- Ensure usability, accessibility, security, resilience and scalability are Embedded throughout the development life cycle.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks through effective planning and governance.
- Support production services, including complex troubleshooting and 3rd line support where required.
- Identify skills gaps within engineering teams and help mentor developers to improve technical capability.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Active SC Clearance.
- Extensive commercial experience as a Full Stack Software Developer, including technical leadership responsibilities.
Strong expertise with:
- Node.js
- Express
- Angular
- GitLab CI/CD
- Jest
- Experience designing and delivering scalable applications within Agile environments.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, engineering best practices and modern development principles.
- Experience leading technical decision-making across multiple engineering teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Kong Enterprise (KongEE).
- Kubernetes experience, particularly containerised applications and orchestration.
- Experience with Amazon EKS or modern cloud-native platforms.
- Previous experience delivering projects within Central Government or other highly regulated environments.
