Role Snapshot
Our client is hiring for an experienced Cloud Networking and Security Consultant to join their infrastructure practice. This is a position requiring deep technical expertise across VMware environments, infrastructure architecture and datacentre transformation. You will work with clients across sectors including central government, defence, financial services, and critical national infrastructure. Designing and delivering solutions that span on-prem VMware estates, hybrid cloud connectivity and modern DevOps-aligned delivery models.
SC security clearance is a mandatory requirement. Candidates with active clearance are strongly preferred, those without clearance must be eligible and willing to undergo HMG vetting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead network and security architecture across hybrid cloud environments
  • Produce HLD / LLD documentation and own technical design authority
  • Design and deliver VCF-based solutions (vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN)
  • Plan and execute datacentre migrations at scale
  • Implement or oversee IaC pipelines using Terraform or Ansible
  • Contribute to GitOps working practices and CI/CD pipeline design
  • Engage stakeholders at programme board and CTO level
  • Provide technical governance on complex infrastructure programmes
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to pre-sales activities
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Hands-on VCF design and delivery (vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN, SDDC Manager). Ability to architect and troubleshoot at a high level.
  • Active SC clearance or confirmed eligibility and willingness to undergo HMG vetting.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce HLD/LLD documentation, lead design authority, own technical governance on complex programmes.
  • Direct experience delivering datacentre migrations at scale - P2V, V2V and on-premises to cloud, across enterprise environments.
  • Multi-vendor infrastructure design spanning compute, storage, networking and security in enterprise or public sector environments.
Nice to Haves
  • Proficiency in AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud networking, IAM and hybrid connectivity (ExpressRoute, Direct Connect, Cloud Interconnect).
  • GitOps workflows, IaC tooling (Terraform, Ansible), CI/CD pipelines, and version-controlled configuration management.
  • Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Tanzu experience. Understanding of CNI plugins and how container networking integrates with infrastructure design.
  • VCP-DCV, VCP-NV (NSX), VCIX or VCDX. Certifications validate depth across the VMware stack and are a strong candidate differentiator.
  • Enterprise storage platforms: NetApp, Dell EMC (PowerStore / Unity), Pure Storage, or vSAN stretched clusters. Inclusion in overall solution design.
  • Juniper EX/QFX switching, SRX firewalls, and the Mist AI-driven wireless/wired assurance platform. JNCIA or JNCIS beneficial.
Additional Requirements:
  • Willing to travel to customer sites across the UK
  • A valid UK driving license. Some of the customer sites are hard to get to via public transport and driving is the only option.
  • UK Security Check (SC) Clearance or eligibility will be required, for example UK national or being a UK resident for at least 5 years is required to obtain the correct level of clearance any applications from outside the UK will automatically be rejected.
