Applications Engineer

Overall Purpose of the Role:
To develop detailed system drawings and provide technical expertise that supports and enhances sales opportunities across Product lines. This role also involves supporting and managing strategic project execution from order placement through to customer sign-off, working closely with both internal teams and customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supply the sales team with detailed system layout drawings, rendered visuals, and utility/project schedules.

  • Deliver professional and detailed system drawings and technical documentation to customers at advanced sales stages.

  • Conduct technical presentations and in-depth discussions on the full product portfolio, including to powder handling subject matter experts.

  • Create CAD drawings to support sales efforts using Autodesk 2D and Inventor software.

  • Assist in preparing accurate equipment costings and contribute to drafting or reviewing sales proposals and quotations prior to release.

  • Influence project solutions by promoting the use of standard products on strategic projects.

  • Offer guidance on feasible project delivery timelines for key projects.

  • Advise on mitigating technical risks during major projects.

  • Produce clear and concise handover documentation for the Operations team to ensure project execution aligns with agreed specifications.

  • Develop tools and workflows to streamline system development, specification, and job costing.

  • Support customer site visits for pre-contract trials, meetings, project reviews, and factory acceptance testing.

  • Expand expertise in control systems and control system architecture.

  • Prepare reports and presentations (using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); regularly attend customer sites, industry exhibitions, and conferences.

  • Build rapport with prospective clients and engage in technical discussions.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, 3DS Max, iLogic, and Microsoft Office applications; familiar with in-house software tools.

  • Strong grasp of engineering processes, especially related to powder handling and milling systems.

  • Knowledge of control systems and control system architecture.

  • Capable of conveying complex technical information in a clear and compelling way to external stakeholders, showcasing business value.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Flexible and solution-oriented, with the ability to leverage existing standard products.

  • Collaborative team player with strong project management and multitasking abilities, able to work with minimal supervision.

Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or Design; alternatively, HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering/Design.

  • Prior experience in a technical sales or solution consulting role is essential; knowledge of the capital goods industry is highly advantageous.

  • Familiarity with plant layouts and P&IDs.

  • Working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and control systems.
