Head of Business Improvement

As Head of Business Improvement, you will set the strategic direction for improvement across client engagements and internal programmes. You’ll be accountable for improvement policy, governance, investment decisions, and the delivery of large-scale, high-impact transformation portfolios.

This is a hybrid role based in London, offering flexibility while maintaining close collaboration with senior stakeholders, partners, and delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Governance

  • Set the organisational direction for business improvement, including policy, governance, and investment priorities.
  • Design multi-year improvement roadmaps aligned to business strategy, finance, and workforce plans.
  • Establish standards, methods, and guardrails for improvement delivery across portfolios.

Executive Influence & Leadership

  • Shape executive and Board-level agendas with clear, strategic narratives.
  • Influence portfolio-level prioritisation, sequencing, and risk appetite decisions.
  • Build and lead cross-company coalitions to drive enterprise-wide change.

Portfolio & Programme Orchestration

  • Lead complex, enterprise-wide improvement programmes with significant interdependencies, risk, and cultural change.
  • Balance value, capacity, and risk across competing initiatives.
  • Set escalation routes and decision frameworks for large-scale delivery.

Operating Model & Continuous Improvement

  • Institutionalise continuous improvement through policy, metrics, and incentives.
  • Evolve operating models to sustain performance gains.
  • Sponsor communities of practice and promote data-driven, customer-centred improvement.

Digital & Data Enablement

  • Champion digitisation and analytics, including process mining, automation platforms, and data-led decision-making.
  • Ensure capability uplift across improvement, technology, and business teams.

Collaboration & Ecosystem Management

  • Align business units, technology, finance, risk, and HR to deliver shared outcomes.
  • Manage external partners and, where relevant, regulators to support improvement goals.

Problem Solving & Innovation

  • Tackle systemic constraints such as legacy systems, policies, and skills gaps.
  • Sponsor experimentation, pilots, and measured innovation to unlock value.

Risk, Security & Ethics

  • Sponsor “by-design” controls in new processes.
  • Ensure governance is proportionate, ethical, and value-enabling.

Learning & Capability Development

  • Build clear career paths for improvement practitioners.
  • Design and measure training programmes to grow organisational maturity and capability.
