Design Technology Lead

MADE Careers is working with a leading international architecture and design practice looking to appoint a Design Technology Manager to its London team.

This is a senior technical role sitting between design, technology and project delivery, working across architectural and design teams to develop the tools, workflows and digital standards that support projects across the wider practice.

The remit goes well beyond BIM management. Alongside Revit and BIM strategy, you’ll work across computational design, automation, cloud based delivery and emerging design technologies, helping project teams solve complex problems while developing more efficient ways of working.

The Role

Working closely with Design Technology, IT and project teams, you’ll support the development and implementation of digital workflows across the practice, from initial project setup through to delivery.

You’ll take a hands on role in Revit, Dynamo, Rhino and Grasshopper, developing workflows, content and automation while supporting teams with technically complex project requirements.

There is also a wider strategic element to the position, contributing to BIM standards, digital platforms, training and the continued development of the practice’s approach to design technology.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of BIM and Design Technology strategy across the practice
  • Develop and improve BIM standards, procedures, templates and workflows
  • Support project teams with complex digital design and delivery requirements
  • Lead project setup and support consultant onboarding and model coordination
  • Develop workflows and content using Revit, Dynamo, Rhino and Grasshopper
  • Explore opportunities for automation and develop tools that improve project delivery
  • Support the management and development of cloud-based project delivery platforms
  • Work with internal and external developers on automation, applications and workflow improvements
  • Develop model and data driven design methodologies
  • Research, test and implement new design technology tools and software
  • Develop training content and provide technical guidance to architectural and design teams
  • Maintain digital standards, libraries, templates and technical documentation
  • Support the implementation of emerging technologies including AI, visualisation and immersive design tools
  • Help embed new technology and workflows across project teams through effective training and change management

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience within Design Technology, BIM or Computational Design, ideally within architecture or a multidisciplinary design practice
  • Strong professional experience with Revit and BIM
  • Advanced knowledge of Rhino and Grasshopper
  • Experience using Dynamo within architectural or design workflows
  • Good understanding of computational and data driven design
  • Experience developing or implementing automation and workflow improvements
  • Knowledge of cloud based project delivery platforms and data environments
  • Strong understanding of architectural project delivery and documentation
  • Experience developing BIM standards, templates, libraries and best practice
  • Comfortable supporting and training architects and designers across different levels
  • Able to translate technical problems into practical solutions for project teams
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Computational Design or a related discipline

Why This Role

This would suit someone who has moved beyond traditional BIM coordination and wants a broader role across Design Technology and computational design.

You’ll remain close to live architectural projects while having the scope to develop new workflows, test emerging technology and influence how digital tools are used across an international design practice.

It’s particularly relevant for someone who enjoys the technical depth of Revit, Dynamo, Rhino and Grasshopper, but also wants the wider responsibility of improving how design teams work.

Apply: If you’re currently working as a Design Technology Manager, Computational Design Lead, BIM Manager or in a similar role within architecture or the wider built environment, we’d love to hear from you.
