Business Analyst
Work directly with the Finance Director to identify and assess service utilisation opportunities, efficiency improvements, and financial optimisation across council operations.
Proactively gather, validate, and interpret operational and financial data from multiple council systems, departments, and stakeholders.
Provide clear insight and narrative behind the data, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities rather than simply presenting raw figures.
Develop actionable recommendations and scenario-based analysis to support business cases, budget decisions, and strategic planning.
Produce concise insight reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior leadership, written in plain language and easily understood by non-technical stakeholders.
Work collaboratively with service leads to challenge assumptions, test hypotheses, and ensure data accuracy and relevance.
Support benefits tracking and ongoing monitoring of improvement initiatives, ensuring expected utilisation or financial outcomes are being achieved.
Map current processes and propose enhancements that improve efficiency, reduce cost, or enable better use of existing resources.
Maintain a strong understanding of local government pressures, funding models, and statutory reporting requirements to contextualise analysis.
Act as a proactive analytical partner to the Finance Director—anticipating questions, exploring underlying drivers, and bringing insight and solutions, not just data.
