Head of Data Protection & Privacy

We are looking for an experienced Head of Data Protection & Privacy to lead the data protection and privacy framework for a large, highly regulated organisation.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for providing independent oversight of privacy compliance and acting as the organisation’s nominated Data Protection Officer (DPO). You will work closely with Executive and Board-level stakeholders, providing expert advice on privacy risk, regulatory requirements and data governance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the nominated DPO and primary contact for relevant data protection regulators.
  • Lead and continuously improve the organisation’s Data Protection and Privacy Framework.
  • Ensure compliance with UK & EU GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, PECR, POPIA and other applicable privacy legislation.
  • Advise senior leadership on privacy risks, regulatory developments and complex data protection matters.
  • Oversee DPIAs, RoPA, data subject rights, data sharing and international data transfers.
  • Lead the response to personal data breaches, regulatory enquiries and investigations.
  • Embed Privacy by Design and Default across technology, product and business change.
  • Oversee third-party privacy compliance and supplier risk.
  • Develop privacy awareness and training across the organisation.
  • Lead and develop the Data Protection function.
About You

You will be an established Data Protection or Privacy professional with experience operating within a complex, regulated environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Significant senior-level Data Protection or Privacy experience.
  • Previous experience as a DPO or senior privacy adviser.
  • Expert knowledge of UK/EU GDPR and wider privacy legislation.
  • Experience developing enterprise-wide privacy frameworks.
  • Strong experience of privacy risk, data breaches and regulatory engagement.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the confidence to influence at Executive and Board level.
  • Strong commercial judgement and leadership capability.
