About the role

We’re looking for a visionary Architecture Governance & Practice Lead to set the standard for excellence. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead the charge in defining and embedding best practices, ensuring architectural integrity and delivery success across our organisation. You’ll design robust governance frameworks, champion innovation, and cultivate a high-performing architecture community that drives real impact.
Key responsibilities
Governance
- Maintain and evolve the architecture governance framework, including policies, principles, and review processes
- Run the various architecture review boards that ensure consistent evaluation of solution architecture designs and enterprise architecture artefacts against strategic, technical, and operational standards, managing the inputs and outputs.
- Ensure architecture decisions are evidence-based, traceable, and support long-term business and technology outcomes.
- Promote the value and importance of architecture governance and foster collaborative relationships with MIB colleagues, vendors and third-party service providers.
Assurance & Oversight
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and risk management requirements through architectural oversight.
- When required to, provide architectural assurance across programmes and initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, strategic objectives, and risk appetite.
- Oversee the identification, tracking, and remediation of technical debt, ensuring it is managed proactively and transparently.
Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience in architecture (enterprise & solution), governance, and technology strategy.
- Deep understanding of architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, SAFe, Zachman) and governance models.
- Knowledge of how to build and grow a high-performing architecture practice.
- Successful implementation of Asset Management processes and tooling.
- Experience with cloud platforms, integration architectures, and emerging technologies.
- Experience working with vendors, partners and third-party service providers in the architecture governance and assurance space.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, COBIT, ITIL) and experience in the Financial Services (Insurance) sector are highly desirable.

Salary: £85,000
Grade: 14
Working Hours: 35 (Monday - Friday)
Office Location: Milton Keynes (Hybrid working)
