Principal Engineer

Intro

A key hire within the engineering team, we're looking for a Principal Engineer to work closely with the Head of Engineering, to shape the technical direction across multiple product teams, ensuring that what we build is reliable, scalable, and impactful.

You'll be the bridge between strategic thinking and pragmatic delivery, helping the engineering teams design systems that move fast without breaking things, and influencing through code, collaboration, and clarity.

What you'll work on:

• Modernising our platform - lead the complete replacement of our legacy systems with a new, cloud-native architecture in Java & Kotlin on AWS.
• Next-gen pricing models - design and deliver a cutting-edge AI-driven pricing platform that powers smarter, real-time decisions.
• New product development - help define and launch innovative fintech products that will shape the next wave of our customer experience.
• Culture-building - play a key role in building the engineering culture of our new UK office, mentoring engineers and embedding best-in-class practices.

Day-to-day you'll:

• Set the technical vision and drive engineering excellence across four agile squads.
• Design and evolve a modern microservices architecture running on AWS.
• Lead on scalability, reliability and performance, ensuring our platform meets the demands of rapid growth.
• Coach and mentor senior engineers, fostering a culture of technical craftsmanship and continuous improvement.
• Partner with Product and Architecture leads to align technology with strategic goals.

What do you need to be successful?

We are looking for a high level Principal Engineer who has a passion for building scaleable products and want to join an energetic and passionate team on a mission to change the Financial Services landscape here in the UK and in the future across Europe. There's much to do, and you'll be responsible for making some real cool stuff happen.

• You're a hands-on technical leader who still loves to dive into design discussions and code when it matters.
• You'll have deep expertise in Java (and Kotlin), with a strong track record of building high-scale distributed systems.
• You've led or influenced large-scale systems, ideally in a cloud-first environment (AWS preferred).
• You think in systems, trade-offs, and impact, balancing long-term vision with incremental, value-driven delivery.
• You have deep experience with microservices, APIs, event-driven design, observability, and platform reliability.
• You're a natural collaborator, you build trust across engineering, product, and leadership.
• You care as much about how teams build as what they build, enabling autonomy, consistency, and learning.
