Intercom Technical Lead

Job Title: Intercom Technical Lead

Overview: MRTC (Midlands Radio Telephone Centre) specialises in high-quality, customised radio and intercom communication solutions for the motorsport and event industries. With over 40 years of experience, the company works with numerous international race series, including Formula 1, Formula E, Le Mans, WEC, and MotoGP. Known for its bespoke communication systems, MRTC combines Kenwood, Motorola, and Clear-Com technology with in-house expertise to meet the specific needs of teams and organisers worldwide.

Job Description: The Intercom Technical Lead plays a crucial role in MRTC’s customer-facing operations, providing exceptional on-site technical support to global motorsport and event-based customers in both individual and team environments. The role requires extensive subject-matter expertise in a variety of communication systems, ensuring that MRTC’s wide range of equipment performs flawlessly under demanding conditions.

In addition to assisting with trackside support, the Intercom Technical Lead is responsible for system design, management and documentation, coordination with customers, users and staff, and ticket resolution support. By building customer relations and providing cutting-edge technical solutions, this role also ensures that MRTC remains at the forefront of the communications industry.

Role Expectation: As part of MRTC’s Intercom Department, the Intercom Technical Lead is required to travel extensively to a range of motorsport venues. The role also demands adaptability, working out of hours (evenings and weekends) aligned with racing schedules, and performing in all weather conditions. The position involves interfacing directly with race drivers, racing teams, suppliers, and organisations under the intense pressure of competition, where technical support can make the difference between success and failure on track.

Working as part of a wider support team, this physically active role requires stamina for long days on site, the ability to lift and move equipment, and the capacity to communicate effectively, even in high-pressure, high-noise environments. The fast-paced nature of motorsport means that applicants for this role must be able to troubleshoot quickly with limited resources, making critical decisions in real-time during practice, qualifying, and race sessions.

Responsibilities:

· Lead intercom-based trackside and remote technical support for high-profile customers in motorsport and events.

· Liaise and manage high-level customer relationships, both pre- and post-event, offering technical solutions and encouraging business growth.

· Build, test, and certify a wide variety of intercom systems before deployment.

· Design and configure intercom systems, IT networks, and associated equipment live at event locations.

· Troubleshoot and resolve communication equipment issues in real time.

· Perform advanced-level training for customers and internal departments regarding proper use and logical troubleshooting of systems.

· Manage intercom systems at a variety of events, utilising time prioritisation to support multiple customers and their communication requirements.

Essential Skills:

· Significant experience in technical support, preferably in motorsport, broadcast, AV, or military.

· Extensive experience with Clear-Com, Riedel, RTS, or Green-GO intercom systems, including Logic, script-writing, and sub-level diagnostics.

· Advanced knowledge and practical application of audio protocols, such as AES67, Dante, or MADI.

· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work under pressure in time-sensitive situations.

· Exceptional time management and organisational skills.

· Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

· Professional outlook, positively influencing team members and customers, championing values, and driving standards.

· Willingness to travel extensively to race events (both nationally and internationally, for approximately 120 days a year), in addition to working from the Intercom Department and providing remote support to live events.

· Valid driver's licence with clean driving record.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Advanced use of network and audio diagnostic equipment.

· Excellent understanding of managed network switches (Cisco and Netgear AV Line), routing, VPN (OVPN), and other remote technologies.

· Dante Level 3 certification.

· Netgear AV Level 2 certification or equivalent.

· Deployment of AES67/Dante Domain Manager in a temporary event environment.

· Experience of other AoIP technologies, such as RAVENNA.

Desired Skills:

· Knowledge of race operations and procedures.

· Experience managing small-to-medium-sized event delivery or remote support operations.

· Thorough understanding of customer training, system design, and technical onboarding.

· Experience contributing to department planning, recruitment, and commercial growth.

Benefits:

· Competitive pay, including bonuses.
