IT Data Analyst Apprentice

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Data Analyst to join a well-established organisation based in South Birmingham. This full-time, on-site position is ideal for someone at the early stage of their career looking to develop skills in data and analytics. The role will begin as a 12-month fixed-term contract, with a clear expectation of progressing into a permanent position upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme.

About the Apprenticeship Programme

The structured programme runs over 12 months and leads to a recognised qualification in data analytics. Alongside formal training, the successful applicant will gain practical, on-the-job experience working within an experienced IT and data environment.

Key learning modules include:

  • Data fundamentals and database management
  • Data analysis and interpretation techniques
  • Reporting and visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, SQL)
  • Data quality and governance
  • Problem-solving and diagnostics in a data context

Technical tools such as Excel, SQL, and Power BI will be introduced and developed over time, with guidance from the internal IT team.

Key Responsibilities

The apprentice will support day-to-day data and reporting activities, contributing to key business functions while developing core technical and analytical skills.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of reports and dashboards
  • Acquiring and preparing data from various sources
  • Identifying patterns, trends, and anomalies in data
  • Supporting data quality efforts, including cleansing and validation
  • Communicating insights to internal and external stakeholders
  • Updating project and support ticket statuses
  • Engaging with IT partners and supporting service improvement discussions

Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • Interest in data, analytics, and IT
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Organised, reliable, and eager to learn
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Indefinite right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available)

Desirable:

  • 3 A Levels (or equivalent), ideally with at least one in a maths or computing subject
  • Basic understanding of SQL, Power BI, or similar tools
  • Confidence and professionalism when dealing with internal teams and external partners
