Graduate GIS / Spatial Data Consultant
An opportunity exists for a Graduate GIS / Spatial Data Consultant to join a specialist technology consultancy, working across a varied portfolio of spatial data and consulting projects.
This role is specifically aimed at GIS and Geographic Information Systems graduates who are looking to begin or develop their career within a specialist spatial data environment. You will ideally hold a Master’s degree (MSc) in GIS, Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Data Science, Geospatial Science or a closely related discipline, and have gained practical GIS experience through an industry placement, internship, dissertation/project work or an early-career GIS role.
You should have a strong academic and practical grounding in GIS, spatial analysis and geographic data, with an interest in developing broader experience across spatial data management, data integration, automation and consulting.
Selection of responsibilities:
- Supporting the consulting team to deliver GIS and spatial data outputs across a range of projects and sectors
- Undertaking spatial data analysis, mapping and visualisation to provide meaningful insight
- Working with spatial datasets from a variety of sources and formats
- Using FME and other data integration tools to transform, validate and manage spatial and non-spatial data
- Working with senior consultants to design and implement automated workflows that improve the efficiency and reliability of data processes
- Supporting requirements gathering, spatial data analysis and solution design
- Contributing to client meetings, workshops and technical demonstrations
- Supporting technical queries and sharing knowledge across the team
- Developing your technical and consulting skills across GIS, spatial data, FME, data integration and automation technologies
Skills and experience:
- A degree in GIS, Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial Science, Spatial Data Science or a closely related discipline, ideally at Master’s (MSc) level
- Practical experience working within a GIS or geospatial environment, ideally gained through an industry placement, internship, university project/dissertation or graduate-level role
- A strong understanding of spatial data analysis, GIS principles and geographic data
- Current technical knowledge of spatial analysis techniques and an understanding of how these can be applied to deliver meaningful insight
- Hands-on experience with proprietary and/or open-source GIS technologies, such as ArcGIS or QGIS
- A good understanding of spatial data management, transformation and manipulation
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- A proactive approach and genuine interest in developing a career in GIS, spatial data and geospatial technology

This is a graduate / early-career opportunity, and you are not expected to have experience across all of the technologies listed above. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate a strong foundation in GIS and spatial data, together with the aptitude and enthusiasm to develop their technical skills.
You’ll work alongside experienced consultants while developing your technical and client-facing skills across GIS, FME, spatial data integration, automation and consulting.
The role offers hybrid working, with 2–3 days per week onsite in Central Birmingham, alongside occasional UK travel associated with client projects.
