Project Manager Team Lead

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing IT services organisation for a Project Management Office (PMO) Team Lead.

This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of engineering and service-related projects within a multi-project environment. You will lead a team of project managers and coordinators, strengthen governance frameworks, and drive continuous improvement across project delivery practices.

The role offers hybrid working, with regular presence required at the organisation’s Berkshire-based headquarters.

The Role

Reporting into senior leadership, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, while maintaining alignment with operational service functions.

This is a leadership position that combines governance oversight with direct project involvement.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Governance

• Lead, mentor and develop a PMO team within a fast-paced technology services environment
• Establish and maintain PMO standards, methodologies and delivery frameworks
• Act as an escalation point for project risks, issues and cross-functional blockers
• Embed consistent governance, reporting and stage-gate processes across the portfolio

Project Oversight & Hands-On Delivery

• Oversee the planning and execution of strategic engineering and service projects
• Personally manage selected projects while maintaining oversight of the wider portfolio
• Drive effective resource planning and utilisation across multiple concurrent initiatives
• Maintain a centralised PMO dashboard and master delivery schedule
• Remove bottlenecks, clarify scope and drive decision-making to maintain project momentum
• Support change management and structured project rollouts

Operational & Service Alignment

• Work closely with Service Desk and Engineering teams to align project delivery with live operations
• Coordinate change windows, maintenance schedules and customer communications
• Ensure accurate and timely information flow between PMO and operational teams
• Maintain documentation and reporting standards to support audit and compliance requirements

Performance & Continuous Improvement

• Monitor delivery performance and provide structured reporting to senior stakeholders
• Conduct post-project reviews and implement lessons learned
• Identify and mitigate portfolio-level risks
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across PMO processes

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience leading a PMO or operating in a senior project leadership role within a technology or services organisation
• Experience working closely with operational service functions (Service Desk, Field Engineering, etc.)
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging senior leadership teams
• Solid understanding of project governance, budgeting, scheduling and resource management
• Experience in change management and organisational transformation initiatives
• Commercial awareness with the ability to balance scope, value and cost
• Familiarity with ServiceNow advantageous
• Knowledge of MS Project, Jira or similar tools beneficial
• Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, PMI-ACP) preferred but not essential
