IT Manager

  • Working closely with the Head of Finance on future IT planning.
  • Setting out practical means of bringing IT management in-house.
  • Liaise with existing providers to optimise data management and security.
About the Company We’re a growing UK-based manufacturing business with multiple sites and a strong focus on improving how we work through better use of technology. With more systems and users to support than ever, we're now ready to bring IT management in-house for the first time. This is a new role, ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, solving day-to-day IT issues, and gradually building out more internal capability over time. The Role We’re looking for a practical, hands-on IT Manager to take ownership of all IT operations across the business. You’ll work closely with our external IT support provider (currently Bluespires or similar), helping to manage and improve systems, support staff, and keep things running smoothly. The role is not highly strategic or long-term planning focused — it’s more about being on the ground, understanding the systems, fixing problems, and helping the business run better through smarter use of tech.Over time, you’ll help reduce our reliance on third parties by bringing more IT responsibilities in-house.Key Responsibilities
  • Day-to-day management of IT systems across all company sites
  • First point of contact for internal IT issues — troubleshooting and resolving as needed
  • Working with external IT support providers (e.g. Bluespires) to escalate and manage more complex problems
  • Managing user accounts, devices, software, backups, and general IT housekeeping
  • Supporting and developing our cloud infrastructure — particularly Microsoft Azure
  • Setting up new users, machines, and software when people join or change roles
  • Monitoring system performance, licences, and security
  • Keeping records of IT assets and processes up to date
  • Helping plan and deliver small IT upgrades and projects
  • Supporting the gradual shift of IT capability from outsourced to internal
  • Reporting to the Head of Finance with regular updates
What We’re Looking For We need someone reliable, resourceful, and capable of managing a range of IT tasks without layers of support around them. This is a great opportunity for someone who’s been working in a small IT team and is ready to step into a lead role.Essential Skills and Experience
  • Good hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365
  • Experience working with or alongside external IT support companies
  • Strong general IT troubleshooting skills (hardware, software, networking)
  • Good understanding of IT security basics and backup processes
  • Willing to take ownership and follow issues through to resolution
  • Comfortable working independently and communicating clearly with non-technical colleagues
Nice to Have (but not essential)
  • Experience in a manufacturing or multi-site environment
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
  • Exposure to networking equipment and Windows Server environments
  • Any formal IT qualifications or certifications
