About the Company Our client is a fast-growing technology business based in Reading, delivering market-leading digital solutions with an ambitious growth agenda. Backed by private equity, the company is scaling nationally and internationally and seeks a technically strong, commercially minded Direct Tax Manager to join the finance team and play a key role in supporting strategic growth.
The Role Reporting to the Finance Director, the Direct Tax Manager will lead the company’s direct tax function, ensuring compliance with UK tax legislation, optimising tax positions, and supporting the broader finance team with commercial insight. You will also work closely with external advisors and private equity stakeholders to ensure proactive planning and risk management.
Key responsibilities: - Manage all aspects of UK direct taxation, including corporation tax, R&D tax credits, and other relevant obligations.
- Prepare and review tax returns, computations, and disclosures in line with statutory deadlines.
- Provide technical guidance to the finance team on complex tax matters and new legislation.
- Collaborate with external advisers and auditors to ensure compliance and optimise tax positions.
- Support M&A, financing, and other strategic initiatives from a tax perspective.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies that align with the company’s growth objectives.
- Maintain accurate documentation and processes to ensure effective governance and audit readiness.
About You - ACA, CTA, ACCA, or equivalent qualified with demonstrable experience in UK direct taxation.
- Strong knowledge of corporation tax, R&D credits, employee taxes, and related UK legislation.
- Previous experience within a technology company, ideally PE-backed or high-growth.
- Commercially aware, with the ability to balance compliance and optimisation.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex tax issues to senior executives.
- Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
