The Microsoft 365 Messaging & Collaboration SME will lead the design, delivery and ongoing improvement of the organisation's Microsoft 365 collaboration environment.

The role is the technical authority across Exchange Online, Teams, Copilot, Intune, Purview, Defender for Office 365 and Proofpoint, ensuring services are secure, resilient, scalable and compliant.

Responsibilities include platform modernisation, leading complex technical initiatives, working with Architecture and Security teams, and providing Tier 3 technical escalation and support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the engineering, optimisation and ongoing development of Microsoft 365 Messaging & Collaboration services.
• Design and support Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams and wider Microsoft 365 collaboration solutions.
• Define technical standards, best practices and platform roadmaps.
• Lead migrations, tenant optimisation and Microsoft 365 transformation projects.
• Manage email security using Defender for Office 365, Exchange Online Protection and Proofpoint.
• Implement Microsoft Purview controls including DLP, retention, eDiscovery and information protection.
• Maintain secure email authentication using SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
• Ensure Microsoft 365 services meet security, governance and regulatory requirements.
• Act as the Tier 3 escalation point for complex technical issues.
• Maintain platform availability, resilience, performance and operational stability.
• Automate administration and support using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.
• Drive adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot and new collaboration technologies.
• Work closely with Security, Architecture, Identity, Networking and Infrastructure teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers.
• Identify opportunities to improve automation, efficiency and service quality.

Key Skills/Experience:

Essential

• 5+ years' experience engineering Microsoft 365 Messaging & Collaboration platforms.
• Expert knowledge of Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams.
• Strong Microsoft 365 administration, governance and security experience.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, Defender for Office 365 and email security tools such as Proofpoint.
• Experience with Exchange Hybrid, migrations and Microsoft 365 transformation programmes.
• Strong knowledge of Entra ID, Conditional Access, Intune, PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.
• Good understanding of SPF, DKIM, DMARC, DNS, SMTP and messaging protocols.
• Experience working in large-scale, global or regulated environments.
• Proven Tier 3 support/technical escalation experience.
• Strong stakeholder management, problem-solving and technical delivery skills.

Desirable

• Microsoft 365 Copilot implementation or adoption experience.
• Teams Telephony, SharePoint Online and OneDrive experience.
• Power Platform, Azure Automation or Logic Apps exposure.
• Zero Trust and wider Cyber Security programme experience.
• Experience working with Enterprise Architecture and Security teams.
• Agile delivery, vendor management and change/adoption experience.
