Interim Commercial Counsel

Major, Lindsey & Africa is partnering with a global leader in digital payments and financial technology — an organisation operating one of the world’s most widely used transaction networks. Their European legal team is looking for an experienced commercial lawyer to join on a 12‐month fixed‐term basis, supporting a broad mix of high‐impact work across risk, client services, and marketing.

The Role

Working within a well‐respected commercial legal team, you’ll be responsible for providing senior‐level legal support across a diverse portfolio, including:

Core Responsibilities

  • Advising on rules governance, membership matters, onboarding, and licensing queries
  • Leading on commercial agreements for risk‐as‐a‐service product offerings in Europe, supporting both established and emerging products. You will be required to draft, review and negotiate complex client and pilot agreements for risk-as-a-service products, including bespoke commercial and data driven services.
  • Supporting the Credit Settlement Risk function, including collateral structures and urgent, time‐sensitive matters.
  • Senior support across marketing, sponsorship, and co‐marketing, including drafting/negotiating agreements and reviewing digital content. You can expect to draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including marketing services agreements, sponsorship agreements, athlete/talent agreements, and promotional contracts, review and approve marketing and promotional content, including digital campaigns, event materials and innovative marketing concepts.
  • Acting as a key partner to product, risk, procurement, marketing, privacy, and other internal teams across Europe
  • Using AI‐enabled legal tools (with training provided) to support contract review and issue spotting

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified solicitor (E&W or another common law jurisdiction)
  • 7+ PQE gained in a top-tier firm and/or sophisticated in‐house environment
  • Strong commercial contracting experience within a regulated, tech, payments, or financial services setting having drafted, negotiated and advised on commercial contracts and risk-based issues, ideally within financial services, payments, technology or another regulated industry.
  • Ability to manage a dynamic workload and engage confidently with senior stakeholders
  • Exceptional drafting, communication, and stakeholder‐management skills
  • Pragmatic, commercially minded problem‐solver who thrives in a fast‐moving environment
