Interim Regulatory Counsel (Payments & Fintech)
MLA is partnering with a leading UK regulated payments and fintech business seeking an experienced Interim Regulatory Counsel for an initial 3–6-month engagement.
This is a high-impact role within a rapidly growing organisation operating at the forefront of payments and financial services innovation. The successful candidate will act as a trusted adviser to the business on complex regulatory matters, emerging risks and strategic initiatives. The position will be a mix of banking, payments and crypto regulatory advisory, with the opportunity to support product development and commercial negotiations.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising senior stakeholders on UK payments, banking and financial services regulation
- Assessing and interpreting regulatory developments and emerging regulatory risks
- Supporting the launch and evolution of regulated products and services
- Advising on emerging regulations around crypto and other novel forms of financial services and the associated implications of business change and strategic initiatives – especially in relation to a digital context.
- Working closely with product, compliance, risk and business teams to ensure regulatory requirements are appropriately embedded
- Providing pragmatic guidance on FCA, PSRs, EMRs and broader regulatory obligations
- Supporting regulatory aspects of commercial arrangements where required
Ideal Candidate
- Qualified lawyer with significant experience in payments, fintech, banking or regulated financial services
- Strong track record advising on financial regulatory matters
- Experience interpreting evolving regulation and translating legal requirements into practical business solutions
- Comfortable engaging directly with senior stakeholders across legal, compliance, product and commercial functions
- Experience gained either in-house, within private practice or a financial services regulatory environment
- Available immediately or at short notice
