Lab Technician

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve production equipment in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Carry out planned, preventive, and corrective maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Respond quickly and safely to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements, machine guarding standards, and site maintenance practices.
  • Identify equipment risks, unsafe conditions, and opportunities for reliability improvement.
  • Support root cause analysis for recurring equipment issues.
  • Work closely with production operators, engineers, and supervisors to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards in maintenance areas and around production equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, uptime, and equipment performance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 and/or ONC apprenticeship (or equivalent experience) in mechanical, electrical, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience maintaining production, packaging, converting, assembly, or automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety practices, including lockout/tagout and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and maintenance instructions.
  • Electrical bias preferred, with the ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults efficiently.
  • Proven equipment troubleshooting and repair capability across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or automation-related issues.
  • Competence in fault-finding in a fast-paced production setting, with a focus on restoring uptime safely.
  • Practical knowledge of maintenance best practices and reliability-focused improvements.
