Role Overview

We are seeking a Critical Environment Facilities Engineer (Mechanical) to support mechanical operations within a high-availability, mission-critical data centre environment located in South Wales.

This is a net-new contract role, responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and preventative maintenance of critical mechanical infrastructure. The role requires a safety-focused individual with experience working in regulated, uptime-critical environments such as data centres, hospitals, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or similar industrial settings.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Mechanical Operations

  • Provide on-site escort and oversight for third-party contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, and service providers
  • Carry out facility rounds and inspections, performing initial condition assessments on mechanical and infrastructure equipment
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining the performance of mechanical systems supporting a critical environments operation
  • Perform visual and non-intrusive preventative maintenance activities across site systems

Mechanical Preventative Maintenance

  • Computer Room Air Handling (CRAH) preventative maintenance (single-unit level)
  • Air Handling Unit (AHU) filter replacements
  • Rooftop Unit (RTU) HVAC preventative maintenance
  • Industrial chiller preventative maintenance
  • Humidifier preventative maintenance
  • Fire pump preventative maintenance
  • Fire alarm preventative maintenance
  • Generator quarterly and annual preventative maintenance
  • VESDA alert and supervisory response activities (e.g. low airflow conditions)
  • Eyewash station and duress button preventative maintenance inspections

Safety, Compliance & Procedures

  • Ensure strict adherence to health & safety requirements, physical security controls, and site access procedures
  • Follow approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for planned and reactive maintenance activities
  • Work safely and effectively within a live critical infrastructure environment at all times

Required Skills & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Previous data centre experience
  • Proven experience working with mechanical systems in a high-availability or critical environment, such as:
  • Data centres
  • Hospitals
  • Pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing
  • Oil & gas facilities
  • Industrial or infrastructure-heavy environments
  • Minimum 5+ years relevant hands-on experience in a technical or engineering capacity
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of preventative maintenance principles
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including extended and rotating shifts if required
  • Basic proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
