Head of Information Technology

We’re seeking a senior, hands‐on IT leader to own and evolve IT across a division of a private equity‐backed technical services group.

This role reports to the CIO and is accountable for delivering secure, scalable and commercially aligned technology that enables growth, operational efficiency and rapid post‐acquisition integration.

Why this role matters You will set and execute the divisional IT strategy, make high‐impact investment decisions, and lead delivery of cloud, ERP and modern workplace initiatives that drive value creation.

You’ll be the primary IT partner to operational leadership, ensuring systems and services reliably support a mobile, field‐first workforce and rapid M&A activity.

Key responsibilities (high level)

  • Define and deliver the divisional IT strategy aligned to group priorities and value creation plans.
  • Operate and optimise IT services across multiple sites: infrastructure, applications, service desk and managed services.
  • Lead delivery of digital transformation (cloud adoption, ERP evolution, mobile/field tools) and automation opportunities.
  • Maintain cybersecurity, incident response, DR/BC and regulatory/compliance posture (GDPR, Cyber Essentials Plus).
  • Drive IT support for private equity objectives: cost discipline, scalability, due diligence input and post‐acquisition integrations/carve‐outs.
  • Own IT budget, vendor contracts and supplier performance; deliver cost optimisation and ROI.
  • Provide concise reporting and counsel to CIO, operational leaders and investors.

Essential experience & skills

  • Proven senior IT leadership with hands‐on delivery and strategic accountability.
  • Strong technical knowledge across cloud, infrastructure, networking and cybersecurity.
  • Experience managing ERP/operational applications and outsourced managed service providers.
  • Track record of supporting acquisitions/integrations or large transformation programmes.
  • Budget ownership (£1m+), commercial supplier management and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Excellent communication and ability to translate technology decisions into business outcomes.

Desirable

  • Experience in private equity‐backed or acquisitive organisations, or in construction/engineering/project environments. Familiarity with ISO27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, ITIL/Prince2 is a plus.
