Power BI Consultant
The Opportunity
An organisation is seeking an experienced Power BI specialist to assess, optimise, and increase adoption of its existing reporting environment within the finance function.
This is not a traditional Power BI developer assignment. The organisation has already invested in the platform and now requires an experienced consultant to evaluate the current state, identify capability gaps, improve reporting effectiveness, and create a sustainable roadmap for future success.
Working closely with finance stakeholders, you will combine assessment, advisory, change management, hands-on development, and user enablement to ensure the organisation is achieving maximum value from its investment.
This is a high-visibility engagement with significant stakeholder exposure and the opportunity to leave a lasting impact within a relatively short timeframe.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the current Power BI landscape, including dashboards, reports, data models, governance, and user adoption
- Identify strengths, weaknesses, risks, and opportunities across the reporting estate
- Develop a pragmatic roadmap to improve reporting capability, governance, adoption, and self-service analytics
- Build and enhance finance-focused dashboards and reports where required
- Partner with finance stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and pain points
- Deliver workshops, coaching sessions, and knowledge transfer activities to improve internal capability
- Establish sustainable reporting standards, naming conventions, governance processes, and best practices
- Support integration between Power BI and enterprise finance systems
- Produce clear documentation and handover materials to enable long-term ownership by internal teams
- Provide regular updates and recommendations to senior stakeholders
Essential Experience
- Strong hands-on Power BI expertise, including DAX, Power Query, data modelling, report development, and dashboard design
- Demonstrable experience assessing and improving Power BI environments
- Proven track record of increasing user adoption and embedding reporting best practice
- Experience working closely with finance teams and finance reporting processes
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to engage confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience delivering outcomes within fast-paced contract or consultancy engagements
- Strong understanding of reporting governance, user enablement, and self-service BI principles
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with enterprise ERP platforms, ideally Oracle Fusion
- Microsoft Power BI certification (PL-300 or equivalent)
- Experience establishing reporting centres of excellence or governance frameworks
- Previous finance transformation or reporting transformation experience
Contract Details
- Initial 3-4 month engagement
- Competitive day rate
- Hybrid working arrangement
- Immediate/short notice candidates preferred
