£90,000pa - £97,500pa plus share scheme & benefits:

A once in a lifetime opportunity has arisen for a Senior Modem Stack Engineer to have a major impact in the development of next generation wireless communications. Our client is an early stage, fast paced, independently funded start-up, who has strong links to the University of Oxford. Led by a talented team with considerable wireless communications sector experience and specialist subject knowledge, their mission is to enable safe and efficient wireless communication systems which will ultimately protect our way of life.

This Senior Modem Stack Engineer will develop and mature the real-time protocol stack that turns the physical-layer communications capability into a robust, usable communications service. The Senior Modem Stack Engineer will own the software above the PHY, including MAC behaviour, link control and adaptation, packet handling, and the interface to higher-layer networking. They will work closely with modem, embedded, platform-integration and verification engineers to define clean boundaries between the PHY, the underlying platform, and external network interfaces. This is a hands-on C/C++ communications protocol role.

Senior Modem Stack Engineer essential experience:
  • Strong professional C/C++ experience developing real-time, embedded or performance-sensitive communications software.
  • Practical experience developing wireless MAC, modem protocol-stack or closely related communications-control software.
  • Strong understanding of MAC layer concepts such as framing, scheduling or channel access, buffering, retransmission, link state and traffic handling.
  • Experience implementing adaptive link control or radio resource logic that responds to measured channel or link conditions.
  • Good understanding of the PHY/MAC boundary, including how link quality measurements, operating modes and timing constraints are exposed to higher layer control software.
  • Good networking fundamentals, including packet-oriented interfaces and practical familiarity with IPv4/IPv6 and common transport or link interfaces.
  • Experience developing on Linux and/or embedded Linux platforms, including multithreading, concurrency, timing sensitive software and system-level debugging.
  • Ability to design clean, modular interfaces between protocol software, physical layer software, embedded platform services and higher layer networking.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across distributed or multi-component communications systems.
  • Experience with version control, automated testing, code review and disciplined software release practices.
  • Ability to work closely with PHY/modem, embedded, platform-integration, verification and systems engineers in a multidisciplinary team.
If you're a Senior Modem Stack Engineer with an expertise in advanced wireless communication systems, and you're looking for a career defining role which will shape the future of wireless communications, then MARS would like to hear from you.
