IT Support Engineer

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an IT Support Engineer to join our growing and successful business.

Supporting a network of 70+ users within a windows server environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support and will work in close alignment with all users and the rest of the technical team.

As well as supporting the users, this role will be responsible for looking after the Data Centre and network infrastructure and all technical suppliers.

This is role is a particularly hands-on and will require the successful candidate to always take their initiative whilst being the first point of contact for all IT related tasks. You will take a strategic approach to support and always consider how enhance the IT infrastructure.

Tasks and objectives

Procurement of new IT hardware and software

Maintaining software licensing

Ensuring the successful roll out of new hardware and systems

IT Hardware and Software Asset Management

Creating and keeping all IT documentation up to date

Performing Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly pre-defined system checks

Creation, Deletion and Management of Users within Active Directory and O365

Logging and managing all requests and issues in the helpdesk system in a timely fashion

Ensure the business remains up to date and secure

Maintaining the security, antivirus system and software licences

Support all users on the network

Develop a basic level of insurance knowledge and demonstrate competency by completing DevZone modules

Maintain effective working relationships with all internal departments

Maintain an open communication ethos with colleagues and managers

Attend meetings when required

Perform a variety of administrative duties as required to assist the Head of Infrastructure

Reporting Lines - who the role reports to, and any responsibility for supervising other staff

Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure and IT

Personal Profile

Qualifications

Essential

GCSEs or higher in maths and English or equivalent

Desirable

A computing-based Degree

Any other 3rd Party IT qualifications concerning Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Networking, Virtualization, Linux and or Storage

Skills/Abilities/Demonstrable experience in the following areas

1st to 3rd Line IT Support

Logical Problem Troubleshooting skills

Any experience of the following would be considered an advantage

Microsoft Windows 10 and 11, Server and 2019+

VPN technologies

Cloud based Services: (Office 365, Azure, Exclaimer, Mimecast)

Virtualization Technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)

VOIP Telephony Systems (3CX)

Network Technologies (LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi/Firewalls)

Backup Software (Veeam)

Storage Technologies (NAS/iSCSI/SAN/Fibre/DAS)

Mobile Application Management (InTune)

Any project work concerning System and Application migration to the Cloud

Key attributes an engineer should be able to demonstrate

The ability to work unsupervised

Deliver to agreed timescales, or to highlight issues as soon as they arise if likely to affect those timescales

The ability to work and communicate effectively within a team

Gain insights of the business within the market based on an understanding of business trends
