Data Architect
Our client, a technology organisation supporting the UK general insurance market, is seeking a Data Architect to define and evolve its enterprise-wide data architecture. This permanent hybrid role will help enable product development, analytics and business transformation by ensuring data is consistent, secure, scalable and fit for purpose across the organisation. The role requires attendance at the Worcester offices for a minimum of two days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define enterprise data architecture principles, standards and strategic roadmaps
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models
- Guide the effective use of data platforms, including data lakes, data visualisation tools and integration services
- Enable high-quality data for client-facing products, reporting, artificial intelligence, machine learning and operational activities
- Co-author data governance practices covering metadata, data quality, lineage, privacy and compliance within Databricks Unity Catalog
- Review solution designs to ensure architectural alignment, reduce risk, eliminate duplication and maximise reusability at an efficient scale
- Establish appropriate guardrails for the migration of customer data between legacy and modern cloud platforms, while evaluating emerging technologies and reducing technical debt
- Mentor and provide technical direction to data and engineering teams
Job Requirements:
- Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture patterns and integration approaches, including batch, streaming, event-driven, medallion and big data architectures
- Advanced data modelling expertise, with the ability to apply industry reference models where appropriate
- Strong experience with Databricks and an understanding of Azure cloud data platforms
- Experience supporting or managing long-term data migration projects between bespoke or legacy systems
- Knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata management, lineage, privacy and compliance
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills
- Ability to assess emerging technologies and make informed architectural recommendations
- Experience within the insurance industry would be advantageous but is not essential
