Embedded Systems Engineer
Our client is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer on a permanent staff / hybrid basis to join a growing engineering team based in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Join our clients growing engineering team to develop bespoke embedded monitoring and control solutions using industrial control hardware, single-board computers, and advanced sensing technologies.
You will work on challenging, high-impact projects involving strain gauges, vibration monitoring, temperature sensing, and data acquisition systems-helping customers gain critical insights into the performance and condition of real-world engineering assets.
What You'll Do
- Design and Build: Develop and test custom monitoring and control solutions utilizing industrial controllers, embedded Linux platforms, and cutting-edge hardware.
- Engineer Reliable Systems: Build robust, reusable software, hardware, and monitoring components using industry best practices for long-term maintainability.
- Integrate and Deliver: Collaborate closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, project managers, and external partners to seamlessly integrate sensors, instrumentation, and control architectures into real-world deployments.
- Explore and Improve: Investigate emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies to continuously enhance our product offerings and engineering capabilities.
What We're Looking For
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience developing embedded, industrial automation, instrumentation, or IoT systems in a commercial or research setting. Key programming familiarity in C/C++, Python, Delphi, and industrial automation development software (such as TIA Portal with Ladder Logic or SCL).
- Instrumentation & Integration: Experience integrating physical sensors, data acquisition hardware, and industrial equipment. Familiarity with standard networking protocols like serial communications, TCP/IP, Modbus, or MQTT is a strong advantage.
- Problem Solver: Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities, combined with a practical, hands-on approach to tackling engineering challenges.
- Multidisciplinary Mindset: Comfortable navigating software, electronics, and instrumentation, with a natural curiosity for how systems behave in demanding physical environments.
Your Background
- Experience of embedded systems design and full lifecycle delivery experience (experience with industrial automation controllers is highly preferred).
- Demonstrated success in analyzing and troubleshooting complex embedded control and monitoring systems.
- A degree (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline is desirable, though relevant practical experience is equally valued.
