Project Engineer

We are seeking Project Engineers to join a specialist marine engineering and boatbuilding business delivering new vessel build projects for commercial, government and specialist customers.

Working within the New Build team, the Project Engineer acts as the technical link between design, production and project delivery, ensuring vessel systems are practical, buildable and successfully integrated throughout the build process.

This is a hands-on engineering role and would suit someone who enjoys being actively involved in vessel construction rather than working purely from drawings or project plans. Working closely with the Technical Manager, production teams and wider project stakeholders, you will support the installation, integration, testing and commissioning of vessel systems while resolving technical challenges as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical engineering support across vessel build projects.
• Act as the engineering interface between Design, Production and Project Management teams.
• Review customer specifications, drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
• Identify design gaps, technical risks and potential production issues before they impact delivery.
• Support the integration, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, exhaust after-treatment, hydraulics systems and auxiliary vessel systems.
• Ensure vessel systems are compatible, fully integrated and ready for installation and commissioning.
• Provide hands-on engineering support during vessel construction and installation activities.
• Work closely with production teams on the shop floor to resolve technical issues and support efficient project delivery.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and subcontractors regarding technical requirements and engineering solutions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practice across vessel build projects.

Experience & Skills

We are interested in candidates with experience gained within marine engineering, boatbuilding, shipbuilding, vessel construction or vessel systems environments.

Experience working on commercial vessels, workboats, patrol craft, support vessels or similar marine platforms would be highly advantageous.

Engineering qualifications are desirable; however, candidates who have progressed through apprenticeships, vocational routes or equivalent practical experience are encouraged to apply.

Junior Project Engineer

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000

• Engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience within marine engineering, manufacturing, installation or production environments.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Understanding of vessel systems and engineering principles.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Desire to develop technical and project engineering expertise within the marine sector.

Senior Project Engineer

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000

• Significant experience within marine engineering, vessel build, shipbuilding or systems integration environments.
• Strong understanding of vessel systems and construction methods.
• Experience supporting installation, commissioning and technical problem-solving activities.
• Ability to review drawings and specifications from a practical build and installation perspective.
• Understanding of relevant marine standards, regulations and compliance requirements.
• Ability to identify and resolve engineering challenges throughout the build lifecycle.
• Experience providing technical guidance and support to engineers, production teams and project stakeholders.

This is not a desk-based project engineering position. The successful candidate will spend significant time supporting vessel construction activities, working directly with production teams and ensuring engineering solutions can be successfully delivered in a live build environment.
