Radio Frequency Design Engineer

Our client is seeking a Radio Frequency Design Engineer to join its Global Services team in Romsey. Working within the defence and security sector, you will design, develop and test advanced RF and analogue electronics for defence, electromagnetic warfare, positioning and timing applications. This permanent position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects that support national security and critical missions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, simulate and implement RF and analogue electronic circuits and systems
• Conduct hands-on RF testing, integration, troubleshooting and fault-finding to optimise system performance, including impedance, VSWR and wideband operation
• Develop solutions across frequencies from LF through to X-band, supporting applications such as low-noise amplifiers, receivers and high-power amplifiers
• Prepare and maintain design specifications, test plans, technical reports and compliance evidence
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical support to Technical Leads, Project Managers, Design Authorities and Systems Engineers
• Support the transition of development hardware into production, including environmental, qualification and design certification testing
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and feedback to junior engineers
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders while identifying opportunities to improve engineering processes and practices

Job Requirements:

• Degree-level qualification in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent professional qualification
• Experience in RF design engineering, RF test and the development of RF performance models
• Strong knowledge of RF and analogue circuit design, simulation and PCB layout
• Proficiency with Microwave Office and Altium, or comparable RF design and PCB layout tools
• Experience designing solutions with low size, weight, power and cost requirements
• Understanding of RF design for harsh environments, including electromagnetic compatibility, vibration and thermal considerations
• Practical experience using spectrum analysers, vector analysers, power meters, signal generators, filters, switches, receivers and power supplies
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively

Additional Knowledge:

• Experience performing Radiation Hazard Analysis and preparing level plans
• Knowledge of defence and national security environments
• Understanding of industry standards, best practice and safety requirements
• Experience working within agile engineering and project delivery methodologies

Security Requirements:

Due to the nature of the work, you will need to be willing and eligible to achieve Security Check (SC) clearance and subsequently Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. Eligibility requires British citizenship and UK residency for the relevant clearance period.
