Senior Systems Engineer

About the Role


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Systems Engineer to join a leading technology and engineering organisation. The role involves working across a diverse range of projects and products, supporting the full systems lifecycle from concept through to delivery. This is a customer-facing role based at our Enfield site, with occasional travel depending on project needs.



Key Responsibilities


  • Lead and contribute to systems design, integration, and test activities.

  • Support the development and delivery of engineering solutions throughout the full product lifecycle.

  • Collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines including software, mechanical, and electrical.

  • Produce high-quality technical proposals, specifications, reports, and documentation.

  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge-sharing across teams.

  • Engage with customers and internal stakeholders effectively at all levels.

  • Work across multiple concurrent projects, demonstrating adaptability and strong organisational skills.


Essential Skills & Experience


  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent experience.

  • Solid understanding of systems and product lifecycles.

  • Experience in systems design, integration, and testing.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • High standard of written English and computer literacy.

  • Willingness and ability to travel for business as required.

  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance.


Desirable Skills (Not Essential)


  • Knowledge of Radar or Radio Systems.

  • Experience across all lifecycle phases including concept, development, production, and in-service support.

  • Familiarity with test houses and external standards (MIL STD / Def Stan / IEC).

  • Experience with communication protocols such as RS485, RS232, TCP-IP, CANBus.

  • Background in Naval platform development or Navigation equipment.

  • Competence with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers).

  • Basic electronics knowledge including circuit-level fault finding.

  • Hands-on experience with tools and soldering.

  • Familiarity with EMC, electronics, and ESD environments.

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

  • Ability to deliver engineering work packages on time, to cost and quality.

  • Membership of a professional institution (IMechE, IET, INCOSE).

  • Experience compiling bid proposals.
