Senior Track Systems Technician


This is a permanent position that offers the opportunity to work globally, supporting the installation, deployment, and management of timing data acquisition and communications systems at race locations worldwide. This hands-on role involves working outdoors in varying conditions, requiring technical expertise, adaptability, and strong teamwork skills.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Install timing loops, beacons, and track temperature sensors at circuits, involving manual work, digging, soldering, and the use of machinery and tools.
  • Install, test, and terminate coaxial and multi-core data cables for loop and decoder communications.
  • Configure, operate, and fault-find on timing data acquisition systems, IT networks, and cable systems.
  • Read and interpret circuit drawings to ensure correct system setup.
  • Commission hardware/software systems, diagnose and repair faults.
  • Monitor and verify incoming/outgoing data using bespoke software, escalating issues where needed.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate installations and operations.
  • Build and repair looms, terminate AS Motorsport connectors, and maintain departmental equipment.
  • Produce technical reports, maintain fault logs, and update issue-tracking systems.
  • Travel globally for race events, typically for 1-3 weeks at a time.


Job Requirements:

Essential experience:

  • Fault finding on electrical/electronic wiring systems.
  • Ability to read and work with wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Technical report writing.
  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP systems.

Desirable experience:

  • Fault finding of CAN-based communication systems.
  • Basic knowledge of RF communication systems.
  • Previous IT network experience.

Knowledge & skills:

  • Competent in Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong IT/computer skills and ability to learn bespoke software.
  • Good understanding of electrical systems and fault-finding.
  • Loom building and cable termination with a variety of connectors.

Personal qualities:

  • Able to work under pressure in live broadcast environments.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Adaptable to working outdoors in varied climates.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop technical skills.


Qualifications:

  • Current UK driving licence (essential).
  • HND or degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Motorsport Engineering, or equivalent experience (desirable).
