Important: Due to the level of security clearance required, all applicants must be eligible to obtain UKEYES ONLY clearance and therefore be a Sole UK National. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain DV level security clearance.

Working: This role is full time office based with possible flexible working hours and potential for a compressed working week.

This is an open opportunity for Software Engineers at all levels - from early-career professionals to experienced Senior and Principal Engineers. As a Software Engineer, you'll be part of a collaborative environment where your ideas matter. You'll contribute to the design, development, and deployment of software across a range of platforms-from embedded systems to cloud-based architectures. Depending on your experience, you'll take on responsibilities that span from hands-on coding to architectural leadership and strategic planning.

Main responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions using languages such as C++, C, Rust and more.
  
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, systems, and DevOps engineers.
  
• Engage in full software lifecycle activities: requirements capture, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  
• Contribute to or lead the development of CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and containerized environments (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker).
  
• Optimise software for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.
  
• For senior/principal levels: define technical strategy, mentor junior engineers, and lead complex projects.
  

Experience needed:

• Degree in an engineering, mathematical or science-based subject or equivalent experience.
  
• Experience of at least one of the following;
  
• Embedded product development (including bare-metal and RTOSes such as ThreadX, QNX or Linux)
  
• Embedded Linux application, kernel and/or driver development.
  
• C and C++
  
• Experience of Object-Oriented Design and Design Patterns
  
• Experience of software testing and design for test
  
• Experience of using version control, continuous integration and automated test tools and frameworks
  

Desirable:

• Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment would be advantageous.
  
• Knowledge of Military or Aviation support environments.
  
• Python, JavaScript, node.js
  
• Communications protocols - e.g. TCP/IP
  
• Experience of best practice software development processes/lifecycles
  
• Exposure to defensive coding techniques and standards such as MISRA
  
• Knowledge of software engineering practices, methodologies, processes, techniques and technology trends
  
• Experience of DOORS, RSA, Enterprise Architect, UML and SysML
