DevOps Engineer - SC Cleared
We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a public sector team delivering secure, scalable, and reliable digital infrastructure. You'll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines that support critical government services, ensuring they are resilient, secure, and compliant with public sector standards.
Day to day duties:
- Designing, deploying, and managing containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes, including managed offerings such as AKS and EKS
- Building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, alongside configuration management tools such as Ansible or Chef
- Managing and optimising cloud environments across Azure and AWS
- Developing and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes
- Writing automation scripts and tooling using Python, Bash, and/or PowerShell
- Implementing and maintaining monitoring and logging solutions to ensure system visibility, reliability, and performance
- Applying strong security practices across infrastructure, pipelines, and deployments, in line with government security standards
- Designing and troubleshooting networking configurations across cloud and hybrid environments
- Managing identity and access management (IAM) solutions to ensure secure, least-privilege access
- Collaborating with development, security, and operations teams to promote DevOps best practice and continuous improvement
Skill set:
- Proven experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration in production environments
- Hands-on experience with Terraform and at least one configuration management tool (Ansible or Chef)
- Solid experience working across Azure and/or AWS, including managed Kubernetes services (AKS/EKS)
- Strong understanding of containerisation principles and tooling (Docker)
- Experience building pipelines in GitLab CI/CD (or similar CI/CD platforms)
- Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Working knowledge of monitoring/logging tools (eg Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Azure Monitor, CloudWatch)
- Good understanding of security best practices in cloud and DevOps environments
- Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (VPCs/VNets, load balancing, DNS, Firewalls)
- Experience with identity and access management concepts (RBAC, SSO, managed identities/IAM roles)
- Ability to obtain or hold UK government security clearance
Desirable
- Experience working within public sector or highly regulated environments
- Familiarity with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards and ways of working
- Certifications such as CKA, Terraform Associate, AWS/Azure certifications
