Senior Application Engineer - Backend (Cloud) Manchester, UK | Hybrid (Tue-Thu in office)
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Application Engineer with strong backend and cloud development expertise to help design and build scalable, secure services that power Internal Platforms.
What You'll Do
- Design and build scalable backend services and APIs supporting mobile and event-driven architectures
- Contribute across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) from requirements through deployment and maintenance
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers within the team
- Promote best practices such as TDD, BDD, and secure API design
- Collaborate with technical leads, IT teams, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
- Apply design patterns and engineering best practices to create maintainable, efficient systems
- Contribute to continuous improvement through new ideas, tools, and approaches
What We're Looking For
- Strong backend engineering experience and problem-solving skills
- Experience designing APIs for mobile applications and event-driven architectures
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Preferred:
- Experience building distributed microservices using Java or Kotlin with Spring Boot
- Knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and secure API design
- Experience with AWS cloud services
- Familiarity with API design principles and automated testing
