Role Description
Help us build better, smarter, faster.
At McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), we’re building powerful tools that help insurers respond to catastrophe with precision. The Global Events Observer (GEO) is used by global insurers to make time-critical decisions using real-time geospatial intelligence. To keep improving, we need someone obsessive about detail, consistency, and quality... that’s where you come in.
We are looking for a hands-on Product Analyst to support the development of our core platform. This role sits close to delivery and is ideal for someone who enjoys turning ideas into clear tickets, working day-to-day with engineers, and making sure features work before they ship. This role is execution focused and your work will help ensure that our tools are as reliable as they are innovative.
Why this role exists:
This role exists to bring clarity, confidence, and consistency to how we ship product. As we scale GEO and infrastructure, particularly in the US, we need someone who can own quality end-to-end - making sure features are well-defined, well-tested, and genuinely ready for customers.
What you'll be doing:
Quality, Testing & Release Confidence
You’ll look to own the quality signal for product releases, working closely with Product and Engineering to ensure new features meet agreed standards before they reach customers.
- Define, maintain, and execute test plans for new and existing features
- Write and run test cases, including regression testing across the platform
- Continuously improve testing standards, documentation, and visibility
- Identify, raise, and track defects through to resolution
- Confidently challenge assumptions and raise concerns when quality is at risk
- Flag or block releases that do not meet agreed quality thresholds
Product Delivery & Execution
You’ll turn business and customer needs into clear, buildable work that engineers can confidently deliver.
- Translate requirements into high-quality user stories, tickets, and acceptance criteria
- Ensure work is ready for development
- Support product planning and backlog refinement
- Reduce rework, late surprises, and unclear scope through better definition upfront
Product Analysis & Insight
You’ll support better product decisions by using data to validate assumptions and investigate issues.
- Perform descriptive and diagnostic analysis to support product and testing decisions
- Use data to understand why issues occur, not just what happened
- Support testing scenarios with real data and edge cases
- Answer ad-hoc product questions using SQL, logs, and internal data sources
- Improve confidence in what we ship by grounding decisions in evidence
Qualifications
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- 1-3 years’ experience in a Product Analyst, Product Owner, Business Analyst, or other execution-focused Product role
- A keen eye for detail and a natural curiosity; you enjoy finding edge cases and breaking things in the right way
- Are comfortable working in evolving systems where processes are still maturing
- Can balance pragmatism with quality — knowing when to push for better and when “good enough” is acceptable
- Communicate clearly and confidently with Product Managers, Engineers, and non-technical stakeholders
- Are comfortable writing clear requirements, acceptance criteria, and bug reports
- Experience working with task-tracking or QA tools (e.g. Click Up, Jira, Trello, TestRail, Playwright)
- Ability to think like a user and anticipate how clients will interact with a new feature
- Basic understanding of how web-based platforms work (you don’t need to be a developer!)
You may struggle in this role if you:
- Need perfectly defined specifications before you can make progress
- Prefer highly mature QA processes and fixed ways of working
- Avoid pushing back or challenging decisions when quality is at risk
- Are looking for greenfield-only or purely strategic work
Bonus points for:
- Experience with data-heavy, geospatial, or SaaS products
- Experience in QA, testing, or product support; but we’re open to career changers too
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (we use Azure)
- Evidence of customer-focused, data-informed decision making
- Familiarity with SQL, logs, or basic scripting to support analysis and testing
- Exposure to the insurance or insurtech domain
- Interest in improving testing standards and automation over time
What we offer:
- A chance to shape a product used by some of the world’s largest insurers
- Supportive, mission-led team working at the cutting edge of tech and intelligence
- Hybrid working, private health insurance, 25 days holiday (+ bank holidays), and our famous Wednesday Lunch Club
- A company that genuinely listens to feedback, from clients and colleagues
