Freelance Motion Graphics Designer
Who we are
We're the fastest growing EdTech startup in London, on a mission to change education forever.
This is a moment where AI-native companies are reshaping entire industries, from Cursor in code, to Midjourney in image generation, to Harvey in law. Medly is building that company for education.
Since launch, we've reached over 400,000 students with retention rates that beat Duolingo, and we've delivered personalised learning with real results. We're backed by impact-focused VCs and supported by partners including UCL, Innovate UK, Microsoft, and Google.
The role
We're looking for a freelance Motion Graphics Designer to work with our brand, growth, and product teams on an ongoing, rolling basis, remotely. You'll produce motion work across our marketing and our product - from ads and social to the animations inside the app students use every day.
This is a hands-on role. You'll take briefs from rough idea to finished animation across marketing, brand, educational content, and in-product motion, owning the work end to end.
What you'll do
Create marketing and social creative - paid ads, organic social, and landing-page motion
Design and animate in-product motion - micro-interactions, transitions, and character/mascot animation in the app, delivered as Lottie/Rive where needed
Produce short-form educational video - lesson intros, concept explainers, and clips for students
Produce brand and launch content - brand films and announcement videos
Turn briefs and storyboards into finished, on-brand animations, owning each one from concept to final export
Partner with brand, growth, content, and engineering so motion strengthens both the marketing funnel and the product
What we're looking for
A strong showreel and portfolio spanning more than one of: social/ad creative, explainer video, brand film, or in-app animation
Mastery of After Effects and the wider Adobe suite, and comfortable designing in Figma
Strong animation fundamentals - timing, easing, composition, and type in motion
Able to take a brief and run with it independently, delivering finished work to deadline
Reliable, communicative, and easy to collaborate with as a remote freelancer
Bonus points
Hands-on experience shipping in-app animation with Lottie and/or Rive
Illustration, character design, or sound design skills
Experience producing educational or explainer content
Comfort editing footage in Premiere alongside motion graphics
Interest in education and how students actually learn
How we'll work together
Ongoing, rolling freelance engagement - not a one-off project
Fully remote, with flexible hours
We'll agree scope and timeline for each brief
Paid a competitive day rate for days worked, invoiced monthly
You'll need to be UK-based and able to invoice as a freelancer or contractor
Who thrives here
You care about quality and take pride in work that holds up under scrutiny
Self-directed - you can own a brief end to end and manage your own time
Fast and iterative; happy to ship, take feedback, and refine
Comfortable working with a startup that moves very quickly and where priorities shift often
