The Integrated Intelligence & Improvement Service (IIIS) specialises in statutory reporting, business intelligence, performance monitoring, analytical insight and service improvement. Due to an internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Information Analyst to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team.

The postholder will be responsible for the development, maintenance and enhancement of a comprehensive suite of reports and dashboards that support operational delivery, clinical services, performance monitoring and data quality improvement. You will utilise the most appropriate tools for each requirement, including Microsoft Power BI, SQL and Excel.

Main duties of the job

A high level of proficiency in SQL is essential. As well as querying and manipulating complex datasets, you will play a key role in developing, maintaining and optimising the Trust's data pipelines, ensuring data is extracted, transformed and delivered efficiently into the data warehouse to provide reliable, high-quality information for reporting and analysis.

You will be responsible for designing and delivering intuitive dashboards and analytical products using Microsoft Power BI and Excel, providing expert analysis and insight across your areas of responsibility. The ability to engage with stakeholders, scope reporting requirements, interpret complex information and present findings clearly to senior managers, clinicians and operational teams is essential. Strong data interpretation, communication and problem-solving skills will be key to your success in this role.

You will be educated to degree level in a numerate discipline, or possess an equivalent professional qualification and/or significant relevant experience. You will have excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. Previous experience of healthcare information and NHS datasets would be advantageous but is not essential.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will work across both the Business Intelligence and Performance teams within IIIS. Professional leadership, technical development and ongoing support will be provided by the Business Intelligence team, while day-to-day priorities will be aligned with the Performance team. The primary focus of the role will be supporting the Trust's Community Services, which currently utilise both System One and EMIS Community systems.

Qualifications

Essential
  • GCSEs (A-C) in Maths and English and/or equivalent qualification and/or equivalent experience
  • Educated to degree level in numerate subject and/or equivalent qualification and/or equivalent experience
Desirable
  • Member of professional organisation e.g. ASSIST: IHM, UK CHIP

Knowledge & Experience

Essential
  • Planning, organising workload to meet deadlines
  • NHS experience working with health-related data
  • Data protection legislation; Caldicott and other relevant guidance
Desirable
  • Experience of data extraction, data manipulation and reporting

Skills

Essential
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL or similar programming language
  • Working knowledge of business intelligence reporting (e.g. QlikView, SSRS, PowerBI)
  • Advanced problem solving skills; identify errors, determine causes and resolution
  • Ability to work under pressure, produce high quality work to tight deadlines and deal with interruptions and sudden unexpected demands
  • Knowledge and use of data pipelining
  • Intermediate-advanced MS-Office skills especially Excel
