Metering/ IoT Project Engineer
MeterZ is a fast-growing UK startup committed to simplifying the collection and analysis of building energy data. We partner with industry-leading real estate firms such as Frasers Property, MAPP, Colliers, VIA Outlets, and Columbia Threadneedle, delivering advanced IoT metering solutions to enhance energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and provide clarity for property investors.
We are expanding and seeking an IoT Project Engineer with practical expertise in deploying metering systems, particularly focused on IoT integration projects.
Role OverviewIn this role, you will be actively involved in planning, executing, and supporting IoT-based metering projects. You will participate directly in field installations, manage technical integrations, troubleshoot IoT devices, and provide technical leadership to installer partners. The role is hybrid from our London office, where you’ll work around two days a week. Travel to project sites for installations and surveys will be required, and a valid driver's licence with a personal vehicle is necessary.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Engineering & Delivery
- Execute and support all phases of IoT metering projects, from initial planning and site surveys to installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Ensure project milestones are achieved on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Document and report project progress, technical challenges, and resolutions.
Hands-On Installation
- Carry out or oversee installations of metering equipment, IoT integration devices, and necessary network infrastructure.
- Conduct comprehensive site surveys to accurately scope installation requirements.
- Assist installation partners on-site, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to specifications.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide frontline technical support remotely, assisting clients with hardware and network issues.
- Perform troubleshooting and basic configuration within our backend platform or other related tools.
- Collaborate closely with technical teams to escalate and resolve complex problems.
Installer Partner Management
- Collaborate with installation partners, offering technical guidance, training, and quality oversight.
- Ensure installer partners maintain MeterZ's high standards for project execution and reliability.
- Expand the MeterZ installer network to increase our coverage in different regions.
Operational Process Improvement
- Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for installation, maintenance, and technical support.
- Suggest and implement improvements in project execution processes.
Product Feedback & Development Collaboration
- Provide critical feedback to product teams on field integration and device performance.
- Support the refinement and improvement of MeterZ’s Installer Application and integration processes.
- Hands-On Technical Expert: Comfortable performing installations, using tools, and troubleshooting device and network issues directly.
- Excellent Communicator: Capable of clearly interacting with installers, technical teams, and customers.
- Organized and Detail-Oriented: Skilled at managing project timelines, resources, and documentation.
- Adaptable and Problem-Solving Mindset: Proactive in identifying and solving issues that arise during projects.
- Team Player: Able to effectively collaborate with internal teams, installers, and external partners.
- 3+ years of experience as a Project Engineer or Field Engineer, with strong expertise in metering installations or BMS system installations.
- Technical degree in electrical, mechanical, or network engineering preferred.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications, including document editing, email, and productivity tools.
- Comfortable using metering commissioning tools, survey equipment, and related field technology.
- Experience with IoT integration projects, especially in metering contexts (or willingness to learn).
- Familiarity with IoT technologies such as LoRaWAN and AWS IoT services.
- Proven track record in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of metering systems.
- Experience managing external contractors and field technicians (or willingness to learn).
- Comfortable conducting technical site surveys, using standard installation tools, and ensuring safety compliance.
- Valid UK driving licence and personal vehicle, willingness to travel (approximately 50%).
- Knowledge of one or more European languages is beneficial.
