The Role

As a Red Hat/Linux Administrator, you will play a key role in supporting engineering infrastructure, ensuring the stability, performance and availability of Linux-based environments.

Working within an ITIL-aligned support function, you will provide day-to-day operational support while also contributing to infrastructure enhancements, project delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Linux professional who enjoys working across both BAU operations and project-based engineering activities within a collaborative technical team.

Key Responsibilities Engineering Infrastructure Operations

  • Maintain, monitor and optimise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Perform routine administration, patching and system maintenance.
  • Ensure high levels of platform availability, stability and performance.
  • Support continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate and resolve incidents, problems and service requests within agreed SLAs.
  • Work within an ITIL-based support environment.
  • Troubleshoot Linux operating systems and associated infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with service desk, infrastructure and engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Support infrastructure design, planning, testing and implementation activities.
  • Assist with deployment of new infrastructure and engineering solutions.
  • Participate in system upgrades, migrations and rollout activities.
  • Produce technical documentation and implementation guides.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Experience using Ansible for automation and configuration management.
  • Good understanding of Linux system administration, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure within secure environments.
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working within ITIL-based operational support environments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary technical teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting engineering or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Exposure to Space, Aerospace or Defence environments.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation and continuous improvement practices.
  • Familiarity with security hardening and compliance requirements.

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the work, active SC Clearance is essential.

Location

This role offers a hybrid working pattern with:

  • Stevenage - 3 days per week onsite (mandatory)
  • Portsmouth - remote with onsite attendance as required

Working hours operate between 07:00 and 17:30, Monday to Friday, on a rotational basis within the team.
