User Experience Designer

Job Title: UX Designer (Contract) – GDS Experience Essential

Location: Remote - 1 day per month in Manchester

Contract Length: initial 8 months

Day Rate: £480pd inside IR35

We require an experienced UX Designer to join our team on a contract basis, working on a high-impact public sector project. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in user-centred design and proven experience working to Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead user research and usability testing to inform design decisions
• Design accessible, user-focused solutions across digital services
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including researchers, developers, and product managers
• Ensure designs align with GDS principles and service standards
• Produce wireframes, prototypes, and documentation to support development
• Strong UX design background with a user-centred approach
• Solid experience designing services to meet GDS standards
• Familiarity with GOV.UK Design System
• Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Public sector project experience
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG)
• Experience using tools like Figma, Sketch, or similar
