Software Architect

Metric Bio is partnering with a rapidly growing, mission-driven medical technology company to recruit a Digital Architect for a critical on-site role in Oxford.

This is a senior, blended position combining hands-on technical architecture with technical leadership and delivery ownership. You’ll act as the primary technical authority across internal engineering teams and an external delivery partner, playing a central role in shaping and executing the company’s digital strategy.

The organisation has an ambitious digital roadmap for the coming year, focused on evolving and scaling core platforms in a regulated environment. A significant focus of the role will be ensuring platforms are scalable, compliant, and submission-ready for regulatory approval, while also maturing engineering practices and architectural governance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning end-to-end digital architecture across cloud, applications, IoT, and data platforms
  • Leading architectural decision-making and guiding hands-on implementation
  • Managing and improving delivery with an onshore/offshore external development partner
  • Providing technical leadership to a small internal engineering team
  • Ensuring systems meet regulatory, security, and safety-critical standards
  • Supporting greenfield initiatives alongside live clinical platforms

Key experience sought:

  • Proven experience in a Digital Architect or senior technical leadership role
  • Strong background across cloud (Azure preferred), applications, APIs, and IoT-enabled systems
  • Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments (digital health, medical devices, fintech, automotive, rail, etc.)
  • Ability to balance technical depth with business-led decision-making
  • Comfortable working fully on-site in Oxford

This is an excellent opportunity to step into a highly visible role with real-world impact, shaping digital platforms that directly affect patient outcomes.
