Interim Assistant Management Accountant

The Interim Assistant Management Accountant supports month-end reporting and daily finance operations, including invoicing, reconciliations, payment runs, and handling customer finance queries. They also play a key role in maintaining data accuracy while assisting the team with testing, data checks, and transition activities during the implementation of a new finance system.

Description

  • Support month-end reporting through accurate ledger postings, reconciliations, and preparation of management account schedules.
  • Carry out operational finance tasks including processing purchase invoices, running payment cycles, VAT support, and maintaining supplier/ledger data.
  • Manage the shared finance inbox, resolving invoice and payment queries promptly and professionally (primarily from schools/customers).
  • Raise accurate customer invoices, send them on time, and ensure payments are allocated correctly through bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with the implementation of a new finance system, including user testing, data checks, process walkthroughs, and transition support.
  • Maintain high levels of accuracy and financial control across all transactional processing, approvals, and reconciliations

Profile

The successful Interim Assistant Management Accountant should have:

  • Hands-on finance experience, confidently managing payment runs, purchase invoice processing, sales invoicing, reconciliations, and a busy finance inbox.
  • Exceptionally accurate and detail-focused, with a methodical approach to spotting errors, mismatches, or missing approvals before they escalate into month-end issues.
  • Calm, professional, and service-driven, able to support internal colleagues and external customers (including schools) with clarity and responsiveness.
  • Adaptable and comfortable with change, ready to learn new systems quickly and support the finance team through a system implementation, including testing and data checks.
  • Strong Excel and systems capability, confident working with data exports, templates, reconciliations, and structured spreadsheets.
  • Clear communicator and collaborative team player, willing to raise issues early and keep stakeholders informed.
  • Financially trained or qualified, ideally AAT, part-qualified CIMA/ACCA, or possessing equivalent experience within finance operations or an assistant management accounting role.
