Website Officer - 12m FTC

The Website Officer oversees the daily management of two websites, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and user-friendly while improving journeys for people seeking support and those engaging with the charity. They also monitor performance, optimise for SEO, support colleagues with content, maintain technical standards, and help prepare the sites for major campaigns such as the BBC Radio 4 Christmas Appeal centenary.

Description

  • Manage, update, and publish content across the WordPress and Drupal websites, ensuring accuracy, clarity, accessibility, and alignment with organisational tone of voice.
  • Review, update, and archive content regularly while coordinating updates across core areas such as support services, appeals, programmes, events, and news.
  • Improve user journeys and page layouts, ensuring content is easy to understand, accessible, and informed by user and stakeholder feedback.
  • Monitor website analytics to track user behaviour, engagement, and conversions, producing insights and reports that inform improvements.
  • Carry out SEO activities, including keyword research, metadata optimisation, content structure improvements, and internal linking to increase visibility and reach.
  • Support Google Ad Grants activity, helping create and optimise ad campaigns, conduct keyword research, and ensure landing pages align with user needs.
  • Identify and fix technical issues such as broken links and errors, test across devices/browsers, and support updates to templates and features.
  • Ensure legal, privacy, cookie, and accessibility compliance, maintaining WCAG-aligned standards across all website content and functionality.
  • Act as first point of contact for website requests, supporting colleagues with best-practice content guidance and helping prioritise updates and development work.

Profile

  • Experienced in managing and updating websites using CMS platforms such as WordPress or Drupal, with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Skilled in content editing, proofreading, and creating user friendly, accessible digital content, with a solid understanding of UX principles and WCAG standards.
  • Knowledgeable in SEO fundamentals, including keywords, metadata, and content structure, and comfortable using analytics tools like Google Analytics to inform improvements.
  • Able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, balancing updates, stakeholder requests, and website improvements efficiently.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator, confident supporting colleagues, advising on best practice, and working across teams.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and willing to learn, with a supportive and empathetic approach that aligns with the charity's mission.
  • Desirable extras: experience in the charity or public sector, Google Ad Grants, basic HTML/web technologies, and involvement in website development projects.

Job Offer

  • Salary - up to £35,349 DOE
  • London based - hybrid working
  • 2 days per week in London office
