Business Development Manager - Professional Services

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving revenue growth by building strong client relationships and identifying new business opportunities predominantly within the tech sector. Our client is a specialist global consultancy with over 250 professionals worldwide and circa 50 in the UK who provide innovation solutions to hundreds of businesses across the UK. They are one of the UK market leaders in the R&D tax credit space offering a variety of solutions to their clients and accountancy partners.

Description

This role is for a passionate, experienced, dedicated sales professional who wants to immerse themselves in the R&D ecosystem. Our client works with some of the most exciting businesses in the UK and they simply want to work with more of them. Their approach is a research focused development motion from the very moment they identify the company as someone they want to work with, and the BDM will develop a pipeline where they know all the moving parts about their targets, how to approach them at meaningful milestones and when to close. This role takes patience, tenacity, attention to deal and an intellectual ability to comprehend the innovation of these businesses.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Building a well-defined target list of 300/400 UK businesses where our service approach is appealing and that are R&D rich
  • Identifying trends in the unicorn/ future unicorn space to keep a track of current and new prospects
  • Be an engaging storyteller, conveying our knowledge of their space, stage of their journey and how we could support them that makes working with us desirable
  • Delivering revenue in line with agreed annual targets
  • Predominantly cold outreach to new clients through a multichannel approach including telesales, email, events and social
  • Actively immersing yourself in the high-growth and technology-focused business landscape to understand client challenges and drivers
  • Attending relevant events, seminars, and exhibitions to build relationships and insight into your target market

Profile

The successful Business Development Manager should have:

  • Experienced business development professional within professional services or a solutions-led environment, with exposure to advisory, consultancy, or complex client engagements
  • Knowledge of accounting and tax desirable
  • Loves the challenge when building something from nothing and has the resilience to see it through. A self-starter happy to do the hard yards to get great results and the rewards that come with them
  • Understand scale-up businesses (as distinct from early-stage start-ups) and ideally have experience working with them in a client or advisory capacity
  • Be naturally curious about business, innovation, and growth, with the energy to proactively learn about the markets and clients you serve
  • Thrive in a small, sociable team and enjoy working in close partnership with another commercial lead, sharing ideas, learning from each other, and jointly driving success
  • Be comfortable opening doors through thoughtful, well-researched, and personable outreach rather than volume-led selling
