The Programme
EPUT and MSEFT are embarking on the implementation of a UK first of type Unified Electronic Patient Record (UEPR) system that spans Acute, Mental Health and Community services. Main duties of the job
The post holder will be involved in the Nova Project to support the implementation of a new single EPR system shared across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT) and Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT).
This post offers excellent professional growth opportunities, including internal secondments to Digital, Clinical Safety, and Transformation teams to support enterprise-wide digital initiatives.
Specifically, the post holder will lead a first-of-type project to develop new interoperability capability between the Trust's EPR system and the pharmacy stock control system. They will provide expert leadership across requirements investigation, technical design, supplier coordination, testing, and clinical safety assurance to deliver a safe, standards-based outbound messaging workflow. The role will modernise inpatient, discharge, and outpatient medicines processes by replacing manual communication with automated digital workflows, improving visibility, reducing errors, and enhancing patient safety.
The post holder will act as the Trust's specialist for this integration and produce a reusable blueprint to support wider NHS adoption projects to develop new interoperability-based outbound messaging workflows including medicines-related digital pathways that are clinically robust, user-centred, and aligned with national standards.

Job responsibilities
Provide expert clinical and digital medicines input to ensure safe workflow design
Support clinical safety assessments, hazard logs and safety case documentation
- Deputise for Lead pharmacist (EPMA) at EPMA project board and represent Pharmacy in other EPMA forums when required.
Review new digital workflows to ensure they support safe prescribing, ordering and supply processes
- Support the EPMA project group to develop and implement contingency plans to ensure patient safety and service delivery are maintained during planned down time or in the in the event of system failure.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- MPharm or equivalent
- GPhC registration as a pharmacist
- Postgraduate diploma qualification (in clinical pharmacy or IT)
- Leadership or Management Qualification
- IT or Project management Qualification
- Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Knowledge
- Significant post registration experience in hospital pharmacy
- Delivery of Clinical Pharmacy services
- Experience of Service / Personnel management
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Practical experience of Electronic Medicines Management systems
- Experience with new workflow development and controlled pilot delivery and testing
- Understanding the Impact of Change on staff and performance
- Knowledge of education delivery
