The Systems Manager is responsible for the support, configuration, optimisation and continual development of key clinical and corporate systems across the Trust, including the Ophthalmology Electronic Patient Record (OpenEyes). The role acts as the technical and service owner for designated systems, ensuring safe, effective and compliant operations and acting as the bridge between project delivery and business as usual.

The post holder will be responsible for the support, configuration and continual development of the Ophthalmology Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system across Milton Keynes University Hospital along with other bespoke systems within the Surgical Division.
The Ophthalmology EPR system, OpenEyes, is scheduled to be introduced into the Trust in 2026/27. The Project Manager will lead on programme delivery and governance, while the Systems Manager will act as the technical and service owner, taking on business as usual responsibility after go-live. The Systems Manager will support delivery activities but does not hold ownership of the overall programme plan.
You will work closely with the Ophthalmology service, the Trust's IThelpdesk and wider support teams, plus the external service supplier of OpenEyes and EPR system.
You will be located on-site between the main Hospital and Lloyds Court and attend other hospital sites to fulfil the role. Hybrid/home working is anticipated, with a minimum of 3 days on MKUH sites.
The post holder is a key member of the IT leadership team with a dotted line to the Surgical Division.

Proactively manage the service delivery, supporting the system as required to facilitate / assist or resolve any system related issues, liaising with internal IT support and 3rd party suppliers where required.

Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge
- Educated to Master's level or equivalent experience
- Management/leadership qualification or equivalent experience
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Further relevant training Service
Experience
- Support and development of healthcare applications, both Clinical and corporate
- Working knowledge of financial processes.
- Able to use Digital systems including Microsoft Office.
- Risk management and governance.
- Proven experience of working in a senior management/leadership role
- Experience of managing and motivating a large team or teams.
- Leading changes in practice in a complex environment to improve performance/services.
- Proven Digital NHS experience in Hospital and Community Systems configuration
- Clinical system deployment
- Project experience in a clinical system setting.
- Experience interfacing clinical applications such as, OpenEyes, eCare
Skills
- NHS clinical information system configuration e.g. eCare, OpenEyes
- Use of health information for supporting clinical practice
- Information Systems requirements - national and local standards
- NHS Data Standards - Knowledge of Information Governance & Information Sharing Standards
- Good understanding of the current NHS agenda & healthcare policy.
- In depth knowledge of change management in a healthcare setting.
- Responsible management of electronic clinical records systems across the Trust
- Resource planning including staff assignment to tasks and working with other Senior IM&T Staff to ensure that these are completed to schedule
- Technical advice and support to managers on systems management issues.
- Planning and collaborating on data quality across Trust boundaries.
- In depth understanding of the current NHS agenda and healthcare policy including transformation and workforce.
